We miss you, mommy!

Vân left for Berlin this morning for work. I was bracing myself for the worst. But it seemed that Sophie knew how I felt. She fed herself at dinner. Then she wanted to clean the living room. One down, four more days to go.

Din Tai Fung - Bellevue

After the Salmon Run, we went to Bellevue for lunch at Din Tai Fung. It's a dumpling place that serves dumplings with broth inside, which Van loves. The food was OK, but it was fun seeing Sophie eat rice cake and dumplings. She loved it!

Yummy tea

I love rice cakes

Left over for dinner

Salmon Run - Cedar River, Renton

On Saturday, we took Sophie to Cedar River in Renton for the salmon run. This is when adult salmon return to where they were born to spawn. But not all of them would make it. It was quite a site of struggle and survival.

Where are the salmon?
It's cold!
Salmon. There they are.

Birthday

It was my birthday on Friday. But Sophie made it hers. She blew out the candles, and she picked out the movie at Blockbuster. Then when she was bored with the movie, she banged on the cookie sheet to get our attention.

2 candles. It must be my birthday again!
Make a wish, daddy!

Fall in Seattle

Fall is finally here. The rain is back, and the leaves are turning yellow around Green Lake. And Sophie just blends right in with her yellow rain coat.

Pumpkin Patch

Last weekend, we took a break from hiking to do something different. We took Sophie to a pumpkin patch in Edmonds. It was very small, but it was the closest one to us. We saw chickens, cows, sheep, pigs, goats and a bunch of pumpkins!

Pumpkins?
Jackpot!

I got my pumpkin, mommy!

Eat chicken! Eat!

Good Morning!

For the 3 days that Sophie goes to school, we do everything together in the morning. Eat breakfast, drink coffee/milk, watch the morning news/Dora, then we both head out to school. Sometimes when I'm busy preparing breakfast in the kitchen, she sits on the couch and watches TV by herself. She looks so grown up.

Halloween Preview

Vân has always wanted to be Snow White for Halloween. So that's whom Sophie will get to be for this Halloween. Here's a preview.

How do I look?
Cute right? I know!
Look at me! So cute!

Sculpture

Sophie creates a lot of art at her school. And we can usually tell what kind of art she has created by examining the stains on her clothes. For instance, finger painting would leave paint all over the sleeves of her jacket. Well, this time, it was a sculpture made of twigs, pine cone and rock. We had no idea until she brought it home from school. And it lasted for one day at home. She broke it into pieces the next day.

Kiss! Kiss! This is a Grammy award!
I'd like to thank my mommy and daddy for everything.
This does not taste like gold!

Walking in Mommy's Shoes

For the past few weeks, I've been asking Sophie to pick out the shoes for her outfit. Without fail, she always picks a pair of shoes that belong to Vân. Here's a video of Sophie trying to walk in Vân's hiking shoes.

Rattlesnake Ledge Trail - North Bend

Last weekend, we drove to North Bend for a short hike at Rattlesnake Ledge Trail. The hike was only 4 miles, round trip, with 980 ft in elevation. We finished it pretty quickly. So what did we do with the extra time? We stopped by Molly Moon for some ice cream! Whatever calories we burned hiking, we gained them back in ice cream.
